A moment lasted eaons when the stream fell still
Red leaves spiralled 'round us like a cocoon
Once proud poplars stood silent and afraid
Of how you changed, in an instant, your form;
Your hair became water and flowed down your neck
Forming tiny drops on precious silver skin
Eyes blue as the skies and deep as the seas
A look so soft that could break a man's heart.
Our mouths stayed shut, but words passed lips
As we composed silent poems profound
The songbirds formed your all of words
And an awed silence became all mine.

The moment passed with the flow of the brook
And these forms were swept downstream
We stood alone, together, as always;
I wonder, what shape was I through your eyes?
I had seen you, Rusalka, seen the beauty inside
And you became all my dreams.
The silence has gone, the world is so loud
And we're deafened by water on stones
The birds now sing for us to depart.
But what if we leave our hearts in this stream?
Will we lose all that we thought, and forget
And return to the same life again?

This is the first time I've posted up a full set of lyrics I've written for my folk band. I tend to write more abstract lyrics than them, which mostly revolve around faeries.

Rusalka are fae water-spirits in Slavic mythology, and are supposed to have exquisite levels of natural beauty, but also be a bit predatory and never reciprocating the feelings of love they inspire.

I think this song was written from personal experience, but because I tend to get obsessed with the allegory and metaphor when I write, I can't really remember but it seems to be about the uncertainty of falling in love.

This is the original version of the poem, when we play the song, we chop and change some of the lyrics to fit in with the timing and tune, but it's pretty much the same.
